History of our Farm and Farmhouse

 

Our farm:
The Hubergut, formerly known as the „Huebgut“, has been in existence since the 17th century. „Hueb“ according to ancient tradition was the name for a large estate. Our farm covers a total area of 37 hectares, of which 8 hectares are forest and 29 hectares fields and meadows.

 

The farm’s history – The farm owners

According to entries in the Church Registry for Altenmarkt in the Salzburg County Archives the owners of the „Hueb ob Creitzsall in Ennswald“ were as follows:

Building work – The farmhouse

The old house is 450 years old!
It was constantly improved and renovated by our great-grandparents.

Roof was removed and made higher. Windows and doors were enlarged. In the same year the house facade was renovated.
Inside walls were renovated.
Maids’ chamber vacated and connected to the existing kitchen.

Some bedrooms were made smaller.

Two WCs installed.

Hot and cold running water installed.

Rooms on the first floor renovated. Shower installed.

Central heating installed. Which meant guests could also

stay in winter.

Conversion of manure shed into floor barn.

First cart shed built.

Second cart shed built.

Purchase of first car, garage was built.

Building of a cesspit in front of stables.

Garage for tractors built.

Rebuilding of barn. At the end of April the old building was demolished, at the end of June hay could already be stored in the new barn. On the first of 1st October the new barn was finished. The pigsty was converted into a workshop.

Building of a 2nd garage (connected to the barn) for second tractor and car

Sale of the last horses. Conversion of the stables into a

free.stall barn for calves. Building of a second cesspit.

Sale of the last chickens, pigs were reduced down to just 2.

Sale of the last breeding bull. Stock sizing by young farmer Sepp.

Building of new tractor garages and depot. Construction of a carpenters’ workshop.

Planned: Conversion of old barn (tie-stalls)

into a freestall barn.

Building of new barn. Organic farm.

My father’s family: uncle Hansi, grandma Theresia, aunt Thresi, uncle Sepp (foster son), grandpa Hans and my father Willi Buchsteiner. My father originates from the Huber Farm in Radstadt. My grandmother Theresia Dax, born in Pfarrwerfen originates from the Höring Farm in St. Johann. On the 7th May 1934 she married my grandfather, Johann Buchsteiner, who took over the Huber Farm in January 1934. Hans still helps out on the farm and has life-long right of abode.

My mother’s family: grandpa Wastl, grandma Lisi, aunt Marlies, my mother Anni (Nani), uncle Wasti, aunt Barbara Mayrhofer. My mother originates from Grosstaxer Farm in Radstadt. My grandfather Sebastian Mayrhofer originates from the Kaspar Farm. In 1944 he married the farmer’s daughter and successor to the Grosstaxer Farm, Elisabeth Walchhofer.
